E te Iwi, tēnā tātau, aku mihi nui ki a tātau katoa ngā kakano i ruia mai i Rangiātea.
Rarau mai, whakatau mai ki te karanga o te wā!
Our tipuna envisaged a prosperous future for us as a self-determining people. However, we as Māori continue to be underserved and ignored by the government of this country, and in the current political setting, we are losing ground, at a time when we have the most significant Māori presences we have ever had in parliament. Kia mataara e hika mā!
Ka rahi! Ka rahi! Ka rahi! Enough! Is enough! Is enough! This needs be our resolute position and call as one of two partners to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, one of the country’s founding documents.
We must build both the belief and knowledge that we already possess both the capacity and ability to address the severe underdevelopment our people have been subjected to over successive generations and successive governments.
‘Ahakoa he iti te matakahi, ka pakaru i a ia te tōtara nui!’
‘Although the wedge is small, it will fell the mighty tōtara!”
Kia matakahi tātou!!
Ko Tākuta Ferris taku ingoa, and I am standing as the Te Tai Tonga Māori Party candidate.
I look forward to speaking with you soon.
