The Māori Party is calling on all Māori MPs to vote against a law to abolish all charter schools.
The Education Charter Schools Abolition Amendment Bill put up by Labour MP Chris Hipkins has its first reading in Parliament tomorrow.
Māori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell says kura hourua (charter schools) are having a positive impact on Māori children.
“We are calling on all Māori members to vote against this legislation. They know in their heart of hearts that acutally kura hourua are deliverying for our people.”
Māori Party co-leader Marama Fox says: “All Māori MPs regardless of their parties, need to come together on this kaupapa because our tamariki are a core fabric of our society. Their future depends on us making the best decisions for them.”
