Katene calls on freedom campers to show respect

The local Maori MP for Kaikoura says freedom campers to the town need to take more care when deciding where to and where not to dispose of their waste.

"It is simple really - only toilet where there are toilets or if you have to go somewhere else, then make sure to take your waste with you when you leave," Maori Party MP for Te Tai Tonga, Rahui Katene, said in response to reports that freedom campers were using Nga Niho Pa in Kaikoura as a toilet.

"The people of Kaikoura respect their visitors so it is more than reasonable for them to expect the same in return.

"I encourage all businesses which deal with freedom campers to inform them of the need to be mindful of where they do their business when they are in this region."
