Message from the Leaders

Tena koutou i nga ahuatanga o te wa

We are proud of the wide-ranging achievements that we can point to, since the 2008 general elections. This publication is a way of sharing some of these highlights with you.

Up until now our key communication has been through either our regular programme of hui in which we provide feedback, kanohi ki te kanohi; and our email tree - or should we say email forest!

When we are travelling throughout country, we are often asked for easy to read information about Parliament - decisions being made and what gains will be felt by whānau.

One of the most common questions relate to our deal with National such as what is confidence and supply - and what does this mean in practice? The emergence of whānau ora has attracted so much interest amongst our whānau, hapu and iwi.

The review of the Foreshore and Seabed Act is another major priority. But there are other issues too which you have told us you want to know more about - the new Whare Oranga Ake; tobacco tax; ETS, GST off healthy food. This booklet is an attempt to bring you up to date with our progress in many of these areas.

Our connections to the people are really important to us.

This publication, our new monthly e-newsletter and our monthly print newsletter will help us to keep those connections - and we really look forward to your feedback.

We hope you and your whānau take the time to read this publication and that you take a minute to let us know your thoughts.
