  Māori Party co-leader Marama Fox is elated that Vicki Letele has been released from prison.    

The Freshwater Iwi Leaders Group welcomes the Mana Whakahono-a-Rohe amendments secured by the Māori Party to the Resource Management Act (RMA), saying they enhance mechanisms for tangata whenua participation in the management of natural resources.

The Māori Party says gains they will secure around the Resource Legislation Amendment Bill (RLAB) will strengthen kaitiakitanga for iwi and the protection of the environment. While balancing the nation’s economic needs.

The Māori Party is calling on all Māori MPs to vote against a law to abolish all charter schools.      

Hon Te Ururoa Flavell - Minister for Maori Development 31 October 2016 - Media Statement   Māori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell has welcomed a date set by iwi to hold a national day to commemorate the New Zealand Land Wars.   Iwi representatives throughout the country met recently to decide on the date for the nation to remember the 19th century war, following a call from Mr Flavell in June for them to work with the Crown and decide the date.   Raa Maumahara National Day of Commemoration will be held October 28 each year, with the first inaugural event starting in 2017.   “I’m looking forward to the commemoration because it will give our nation the opportunity to learn a part of our history that has been silent for too long,” Mr Flavell said.   "Raa Maumahara is a sign of our maturity as a nation that we know our history – good and bad. And I look forward to working with iwi to further support this initiative.”

The Māori Party welcomes the latest report from the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment ‘Climate change and agriculture and Understanding the biological greenhouse gases’.

The Māori Party joins the country in paying tribute to Helen Kelly who they describe as a "wahine toa."

10 October 2016 Labour, the Green Party and the Māori Party are calling on the Government to immediately adopt the 21 recommendations set out in today’s Ending Homelessness in New Zealand report.  This morning, the Cross-Party Inquiry into Homelessness has released its final report. Over the last several months the Inquiry has received hundreds of written and oral submissions from around New Zealand, which have been brought together into one report along with a set of 20 recommendations.
